Former Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu has secured a new challenge abroad after completing a move to Maldivian outfit Atolls FC.
The experienced centre-back has joined the club ahead of their campaign in the FA Maldives Third Division Championship, adding leadership and international experience to the squad as they pursue promotion.
Xulu wasted little time in getting his first taste of action for his new club, making his debut against Maafannu Central United. It proved to be a memorable introduction as Atolls FC produced a dominant display to secure a resounding 10-2 victory.
The former Bafana Bafana captain’s arrival represents another chapter in a career that has seen him play across multiple continents. Xulu has previously featured for clubs including Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United and SuperSport United, while also enjoying spells abroad in Russia, Israel and Azerbaijan.
Known for his leadership qualities, defensive organisation and composure on the ball, the 34-year-old brings a wealth of experience to an Atolls FC side looking to make its mark in the Maldives football landscape.
Having earned more than 30 caps for South Africa during his international career, Xulu remains one of the country’s most respected defenders. His move to the Maldives further highlights the global footprint of South African footballers, with players continuing to explore opportunities in emerging football markets around the world.
After a dream debut that ended in a 10-2 victory, Xulu will now be hoping to help Atolls FC build momentum as they continue their FA Maldives Third Division Championship campaign.
