Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove has officially brought the curtain down on his successful spell with Iraqi Premier League champions Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, announcing his departure after helping the club secure the league title.
The Mozambique international now begins a new chapter after completing a move to fellow Iraqi top-flight side Newroz, remaining in the same league as he looks to build on an impressive debut season in Iraq.
Dove’s arrival at Newroz adds further quality to a side that enjoyed an excellent campaign, finishing just one point ahead of Zakho, who recently strengthened their squad with the signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sipho Mbule.
The move also sets up an intriguing South African storyline in Iraq, with former Kaizer Chiefs defender Dove and ex-Orlando Pirates star Mbule expected to battle it out in the Iraqi Premier League next season.
Emotional Farewell to the Blue Hawks
Reflecting on his departure, Dove shared a heartfelt message to everyone associated with Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, expressing gratitude for a memorable season.
“We had fun. We created memories.
“For every beginning there’s always an end and for every ending there will always be a new beginning.
“The time has come for me to say goodbye to this great club.”
The experienced defender thanked the club’s president, board of directors, technical team, teammates and the passionate Blue Hawks supporters for making him feel at home throughout his stay.
Dove credited the club’s leadership and coaching staff for their unwavering support and guidance during the campaign, while paying tribute to his teammates for the bond they shared on and off the pitch.
He also reserved special praise for the supporters, describing them as the heartbeat of the club.
“Thank you for every time you sang my name, for always being with us through thick and thin. You are part of this successful story.”
He concluded by wishing Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya every success for the future.
New Challenge Awaits
After lifting league honours with Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Dove now embarks on a fresh challenge with Newroz, where expectations will be high as the club looks to close the gap on the champions next season.
With Newroz aiming to build on their strong finish and Zakho adding the creative quality of Sipho Mbule, Iraqi football is set to feature an exciting South African rivalry in the upcoming campaign.
For Dove, it is another opportunity to demonstrate the consistency and leadership that made him a fan favourite during his time with the Blue Hawks, while continuing to fly the flag for Southern African football abroad.
