Soccer freestyling, a street subculture turned popular sports discipline globally, has found a formidable champion in Jabu “Mjepa” Ngoveni, the reigning Mzansi Champion. Hailing from Limpopo, Ngoveni’s journey in the world of freestyle soccer is as inspiring as it is impressive.

Born in Limpopo, Jabu is a well-recognized freestyler in South Africa. When asked about his inspiration, he mentions Ronaldinho with a smile. Ronaldinho’s incredible skills on the field captivated Jabu and made him want to pursue freestyle soccer.
Jabu also looks up to Chris Njokwana, a South African freestyle footballer who holds the Guinness World Record for the highest altitude football dropped and controlled. Njokwana’s achievements have motivated Jabu to push himself further in the sport.
However, Jabu acknowledges the challenges that come with being a freestyler. The lack of events to perform at and the absence of individual sponsorships from big brands are some of the hurdles he has faced. Despite these obstacles, Jabu remains committed to developing the sport in South Africa and is proud to be part of its growth. He actively trains young talents, especially aspiring female freestylers.

Ngoveni’s talent has earned him numerous titles, including Redbull Street Style Champ, SA Champs, Back to the City Champs, and Lotto Champs Competition. Collaborations with brands like Mamelodi Sundowns and appearances at prestigious events like the clash between Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs have further bolstered his brand and social media presence.
As a globetrotter, Ngoveni has showcased his skills in various countries, including the Czech Republic, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and more. These experiences have not only allowed him to live his dream but also to connect with fellow freestylers globally, forging lasting friendships.

Ngoveni’s ambition knows no bounds, aiming to become a World Champion and bring pride to his country. As the first from Limpopo to win the Redbull Freestyling Competition and the first SA Champion from the region, Ngoveni’s determination serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring freestylers nationwide.
Through his determination, talent, and unwavering passion, Jabu “Mjepa” Ngoveni has become a trailblazer in the world of soccer freestyling, leaving an indelible mark on the sport in Mzansi and beyond.
