Rushine De Reuck Extends Simba SC Stay and Named Club Captain as Bafana Bafana Hope Grows

Tanzanian giants Simba SC have rewarded South African defender Rushine De Reuck with a one-year contract extension while also handing him the captain’s armband—an acknowledgement of the leadership and influence he has brought to the club since arriving in Tanzania.

The 30-year-old centre-back has quickly established himself as one of the key figures in the squad, becoming a commanding presence at the heart of the defence. Since joining the Dar es Salaam outfit in July 2025, the experienced campaigner has featured regularly and contributed three goals in 18 appearances, underlining both his defensive solidity and threat in set-piece situations.

Working under the guidance of fellow South African Steve Barker, the seasoned defender has become a pillar of stability in the team. Barker took charge of the club following the departure of Fadlu Davids, and the new leadership group has leaned heavily on the experience and professionalism of the former Mamelodi Sundowns defender.

For the Kalksfontein-born footballer, the chapter in Tanzania represents a powerful resurgence in a career that has not always followed a straight path. While part of the star-studded squad at Sundowns, regular game time proved difficult to secure. The search for minutes and renewed confidence saw him take opportunities abroad, including a spell with Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva.

Those experiences appear to have shaped a more mature and determined leader.

Across his professional journey, the South African international has amassed around 177 senior appearances while contributing three goals and an assist—numbers that reflect a dependable defensive career built on consistency and discipline.

Now entrusted with leading one of East Africa’s biggest clubs, the defender carries both responsibility and opportunity. Wearing the captain’s armband for Simba is more than a personal milestone—it is a sign of trust from the club and recognition of the authority he commands both on and off the pitch.

The timing of this resurgence could also prove significant on the international stage. With the FIFA World Cup on the horizon, the experienced centre-back will be hoping his performances in Tanzania catch the attention of Hugo Broos.

South Africa national football team are scheduled to face Panama national football team in two international friendlies later this month, with matches set for 27 March at Moses Mabhida Stadium and 31 March at DHL Stadium.

For the Simba skipper, the journey from limited opportunities in South Africa to leading a historic club in Tanzania serves as a reminder that persistence can redefine a career. And as he continues to marshal the backline in Dar es Salaam, the hope will be that this revival also opens the door to another chapter with Bafana Bafana.
