Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Brian Onyango has officially joined Orbit College, with the Kenyan international speaks out on his move to the North West side as they look to avoid relegation.
The defender, who last featured for Stellenbosch FC, arrives at a crucial point in the campaign. Mswenko Boys currently sit 15th on the table with 14 points after 18 matches, and the experienced centre-back is expected to provide leadership and defensive stability as they fight for survival.
Speaking to this publication, He expressed gratitude and determination for the challenge ahead.
“Just wanna thank the Almighty God for the privilege He has given me to be at service for His Glory by joining Orbit College,” he said.
The 31-year-old has been in South African football since 2012, when he signed for Santos FC. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a composed and commanding defender, earning opportunities at the highest level of the domestic game.
His time at Sundowns saw him operate in a demanding, trophy-driven environment, particularly during the era of coach Rulani Mokwena. It was during that period at Masandawana that he shared the dressing room with Suprise Ralani — a reunion that now continues in North West.
“I’m very happy to reunite with my brother Ralani who made it easy for me to settle quick in the team,” Onyango added.
Their previous understanding and experience of competing at the highest level could prove crucial as head coach Pogiso Makhoye looks to inspire a turnaround in fortunes. In relegation battles, organisation and mentality are often decisive, and the duo’s experience of high-pressure environments may help guide the squad through a tense run-in.
With survival the clear objective, Onyango’s arrival signals intent from Orbit College. The coming weeks will determine whether his leadership at the back can help the Umswenko Boys climb out of the danger zone and secure their status.
