Cape Town City has bolstered their squad with the addition of 28-year-old Haashim Domingo, who recently joined the Betway Premiership side after a stint with Raja Casablanca in Morocco. The talented midfielder, a product of Ajax Cape Town (now called Cape Town Spurs), is known for its robust youth development structures.

Returning home (Innie Kaap) after nearly 11 years away, Domingo brings a wealth of experience gained from playing in Portugal, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Bidvest Wits. His return to Cape Town marks a significant chapter in his career, as he looks forward to contributing to his new team.

“It’s a great feeling and a huge honor to have signed for Cape Town City,” said Domingo. “It’s been about 11 years since I’ve been back in the mother city, so I’m extremely happy to be at the club and back at home.”

Domingo has been actively participating in the preseason preparations and feels positive about the team’s progress. “Preseason has been good so far. We as a collective have been putting in the work and hopefully, we can replicate what we’re doing now at competition level. I’m adapting very well to the style of play because they play the type of football I like to play.”

Reflecting on his time in Morocco, Domingo stated, “To be honest, that stint in Casablanca is a book I’ve closed and I’m not planning on opening it. All I try to bring is just to give my everything consistently and to enjoy my football again.”

Domingo’s ambitions with Cape Town City are clear. “My targets are merely to help the team and club to be successful and to bring the trophies home. So far, it’s been really good; lots of work to be done, but we’re gelling well. We want to go all the way and win it,” he said, eyeing the MTN 8 Cup as a key objective for the season.

Domingo also shared his thoughts on young prospect Emile Witbooi, who has been generating considerable buzz as a 16-year-old with a bright future. “I don’t want to say much about him. I know there’s a hype around him, but I’m constantly guiding him to keep his head on his shoulders, especially in times like this where he’s the talk of the town. What I can say about him is that the future looks bright.”

Haashim Domingo’s move to Cape Town City is seen as a significant boost for the club, bringing experience, skill, and a renewed passion for the game. With his eyes set on success, both he and the club are poised for an exciting season ahead.
